Working on new box tops

The family and I have been battling the plague over the last couple weeks. I really nasty head/chest cold. I have not been feeling like working on much lately. I am rolling back in though now and am working on completing a couple personal boxes that will eventually be sold at an upcoming show.

This is a continuation of something I started the other week. added purple heart inlays.

I am thinking it needs something else yet. perhaps an ebony stripe at an angle across the top. I don't know yet though.

Black walnut, birds eye maple, and purple heart

This is a frame to a top of another box approx. 8 inches square. Hard maple and black walnut

Its really fun to see how these things just lock together with joints like this. The grain of the walnut is running at 45 degrees to the maple.

I am thinking something reddish at a 45 degree angle in the middle of this lid, but I will see what I have laying around.

This last run of boxes I have been cleaning out the drop falls from other projects. It is really fun to design and machine around a small blank and having nothing but dust from the scraps. Full utilization as much as possible from the material. This scrap piece was 8 inches by 4 inches of the maple. Now its going to be slightly smaller than 8 inches square box making up a 3/4 inch wide frame.

Thanks for looking. email me and I will make something special for you. -Bill
