Darn Where does the time go?

I came home fully planning on getting this lid together and cut for the new threaded desk valet. Weeeellllll lets just say it didn't happen.

I did manage to lay up the lid parts the walnut and oak, not the inlay yet as I haven't decided on color.

Its still not sanded but the threads did turn out really nice.

Gives you perspective on size.

8-1/4 inch square blocks.

Black walnut will make up the bottom of the lid for contrast with the oak at the top. The inlay will be a redder color with radiused top. The glue took forever to dry tonight for some reason. Oh well tomorrow I will get the lid cut inside and out, threaded and inlay installed.

New desk valet

To give you an idea of size, this is 15 1/2 long by 7 3/8 wide.

This is White oak.

That thread that is cut 6 1/8 x 1/8 pitch. and has a relief groove.

Obviously this is right off the machine. The lid will be a combination of white oak, black walnut around the lip and a red inlay of either paduak, purple heart, or blood wood. I haven't decided yet.

I will continue to post images up as it comes along.

Working on threads

Trying my hand at my first thread milling in wood.

In this case red oak and walnut lid. I needed to cut a relief groove, but the next one will have it.

This was just an experiment and it worked out well and will be a cute little box.

I will be creating a new style desk valet with a much larger thread.

Need a cutting board?
Walnut, Oak, and Purple heart

Another design with scaled correct football as the juice groove

From a concept to reality

This project did take quite a bit of time to complete and deliver. Took a bit of doing.
This is to be a knock down field table like a 1970's era TV tray on steroids.

 Design Phase

Its a fairly big HEAVY folding table made from red oak.

30x20 inches, 2 inch thick solid oak top.

1.5 inch oak dowels huge pivot lugs fully 3D machined.

I know for a fact it will easily support more than 400 pounds and a buddy and I tested it. handled it with an issue.

Locking stop

Folded flat note the cross drilled dowels

Can you guess who its for?

Need something unique? Want something like this?

Thanks for your patience with me Pete.

And there your sign(s)

Busy weekend designing and making some signs for upcoming show this weekend.
I couldn't decide if the dog sign should of read exercise or exorcist.

Minus the poochie sign, its really a garden themed set.

My dad brought me over the bottom fish and said " I bet you cant make that", I think I matched it pretty well.

So then I had to go one bigger. The 32 inch Northern Pike Bowl set

Making Dust

And There's your bowl!

Thanks for looking More to come soon.

Big Old Table amost complete

Again this is a large folding table. Think of it as a 70's style TV tray, just 30x20x2 inches

Darn thing looks better than my kitchen table which is also solid oak. Now I am going to have to refinish that now. Thanks Pete! LOL another thing on my list of things to finish :)

This is the table top for the "Erector Set" seen in an earlier post

Because I can only get time here and there for things, I have to do them in pieces. Here are a couple pictures to the large folding table. This finished "slab-O-oak" is 30 inches by 20 inches.

As you can see it is still on the machine so it will require sanding yet but it is a hunk.
It is about 2 inches thick.

It will eventually get mounted to the assembly here very soon.

Need something? Say something. :) email me at billsbilletboxes@gmail.com and I can get started on something for you too.

Erector set?

This is one of a couple projects that has been keeping me entertained in my spare time. Its nice to start to see it finally coming together.
The first images are design concepts for a large old school TV tray type folding table. Table top on this is 30 inches by 20 inches. Top thickness is 1 1/2 inches thick.

This blue dowels are 1 1/4 inch red oak

Folded

Here is the first test fitting of the machined components.
Bring in the machined parts he says!

Again just test fitting nothing permanently installed

This thing is going to be quite stout. All dowels will be glued and cross doweled in place.

Ignore the chords. Still getting things settled in new place.

I will update as the assembly becomes... well assembled.
