Ebony coco bolo update

Update on the Ebony Coco Bolo box.
Haven't had a chance to sand it yet, but this week.

I came to the conclusion that this box didn't want to be made. A number of challenges along the way for various reasons. It is finally seeing things my way.

I did manage to keep part of the Pulp edge, not as much as I wanted buts its nice and subtle

The material costs of this piece will put this at a pretty high price point. I will get it sanded and cleared out and will post finished images I hope this week.

Would you like it? drop me a note and it can be yours.

Thanks -Bill

Old Wood revisited

Ah playing with old wood again.
I was looking through my scrap boxes and started laying of a mix match of woods. I was happy to see how they turned out.

Old old old walnut with red cedar

My favorite part the break through

Carrying on the conversation from earlier posts, I just love what gem was hiding in this board. This walnut is so old. It smells old. I am going to be doing this more often now utilizing the scraps from old projects.
Small piece of Santos Mahogany I had laying around with hard maple on the lip.
Will make a nice pencil box.

9 Inches long by 7/8 wide. Will make a very nice pencil box for someone.

 Nice sandwich

I will be sanding and finishing this out very soon. This is right of the machine.

Holidays are coming. Got something in mind for someone significant? Drop me a note and we can make it happen for you.

Thanks for looking.

Ebony, Paela, Coco Bolo

This is a start of a very special box. Still needs sanding and fishing yet, but it was so pretty I wanted to post some images quick.
I left the pulp wood edge on the ebony for some contrast.

And on to the inside of the lid

I will post up more images once I get the base made and the entire thing finished out.

Cherry Butternut

In process box. finished pictures in a few day I hope if I get time to finish it out.

Cherry with Butternut opposing grain inlays.

Recessed bottom floor that will be lined with Velvet.

Inlay carries through to the inside of the Lid. I see this box being hinged and a huge part of your desk.

Bottom of the box has machined in feet and relieved oval pocket to help keep box true and strait.

This one will be a looker when done. I have plans to make quite a few like this with many different exotic species of wood. I have some really nice lumber right now.

If you have some thoughts on what would make the perfect one for you please let me know.

Got Teeth?

Bills incredibly small tooth fairy box

Tiny box with a snug fit to hold that tooth in a safe place for the tooth fairy. Do you have kids or grand kids and looking for a cute gift idea? This may be it.

contact me at billsbilletboxes@gmail.com and we can get some out to you.

Thank you!

Santos Mahogany

This wood is so incredibly dense and heavy. An absolute dream to machine.
This box is "Fully" 3-D machined inside and out, top and bottom. small ball end mills fully 3D contoured. Took a long time on the machine for such a small box requiring a lot of set-ups.

Bottom of box with machine ball feet, and relieved on back to prevent warping,
 Inside 3D machined lid

If something like this interests you, I can make one for you or any other custom project you may want.

Thanks for looking.

Lets Talk about Wood...........

Old versus new wood. which is better? Ill let you be the judge. whenever I do something custom for someone I always ask, do you want new wood or repurposed old wood that could be 85-100 years old?

Most say new, but they just don't understand......

OLD WOOD

You caught a glimpse of the machined "old wood" in the second picture.

Absolutely stunning, the grain this "old" wood has. This board looked like crap quite honestly but look after I made a cut. Don't judge a book by its cover. Its always amazing to see what is in that board. This is a prototype of what I am calling the "buck box" soon to be the "buck book". They will hold 20 of what ever denomination bills you have in your wallet and keep it relatively hidden. If you put it in the fire though its not my fault. The buck book will have an engraved spine to put on the shelf with the rest of your books.

Thanks for looking everyone. Please send some business my way. I will try and make that special gift work for you.

New Wood....

There is a lot to be said. If I am making something for someone I know, I opt for old wood. Why? It was originally something else. Now it is something for me. There is a legacy. It has been repurposed and has survived and will continue to survive. I made some items earlier this summer with wood I know was almost 100 years old. It will go on many, many more decades.

Mine may not be as good as the original purpose of the wood, but I kept it from the fire place.

Its always a blast to peel that layer back and see what you have to work with, I work pieces around the wood the best I can.

Please get in touch with me a billsbilletboxes@gmail.com
I would love to make something special for you.

Thanks
